INTRODUCTION

The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh is a small, compact and light power bank that delivers a big three-punch combination of high capacity, consistent efficiency and a reasonable price tag. It is capable of up to 60 watts of output -- a capacity rarely reached by other power banks in the 20000mAh class. It also efficiently performed in our tests even as it reached its maximum output of 60 watts. Its efficiency ratings it posted barely slipped across our tests. This makes it an option not only for your smartphones but for larger devices such as tablets and laptops. ravpower pd pioneer weight This RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh also promises an impressively wide range of fast-charge support which surprisingly include Huawei devices. This is a plus as power banks which offer fast-charge support for the devices of the Chinese tech giant are often hard to find. The only drawback on compatibility is that it does not have fast-charge support for devices which use a programmable power supply (PPS) such as the more recent releases of Samsung. To top everything, this power bank is available at a very reasonable price of $44. This is a tag lower than many of its competitors in the 20000mAh class. Aside from some minor drawbacks on compatibility, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh is easily the best pack in its class.

RAVPower PD PIONEER BUILD QUALITY AND FIRST IMPRESSIONS

ravpower pd pioneer port The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000 mAh comes exclusively in black. The power bank sports a small, compact design. It weighs 370 grams -- lighter than most of its competitors other than the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD. Although it may not readily fit your pockets, it is an easy shoo-in in your bags and briefcases. The power bank measures 151 x 67 x 57 mm. ravpower pd pioneer back This RAVPower creation is equipped with two ports: a USB-C and USB-A port. CHARGE CAPABILITIES

ravpower pd pioneer laptop test The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh offers a wide range of fast-charge support even for the devices often left out by other power banks. Patrons of Apple should not have any qualms on purchasing this power bank as its fast-charge support covers not only iPhones but also iPads and Macbooks. Furthermore, smartphones from the past generation such as the Samsung Galaxy S6 to S10 series and the Xiaomi Mi series are also supported by the fast-charge protocols of this RAVPower creation. ravpower pd pioneer, Nintendo Switch test But arguably, the clincher for this power bank is its support for the fast-charge technologies of Huawei: the Huawei Fast Charge Protocol (FCP) 9V and the more recent Huawei SuperCharge Protocol (SCP). This makes the RAVPower Pioneer 20000 mAh an option for users of Huawei devices such as the Huawei P40 and Mate series. The fast-charge support offered for devices of the Chinese tech company puts the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh ahead of most, if not all, of its competitors as other power banks seldom offer FCP and SCP fast-charge compatibility. The only drawback to the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh with regards to fast charge compatibility is its lack of the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) protocol. This incompatibility may be a dealbreaker for Samsung users as the more recent releases of Korean tech giant such as the Samsung Note 10, 10+, 20, Note 20 ultra, S20, S20+ and S20 Ultra all use PPS. The lack of PPS support may also be an issue in the future as many tech companies have started to adopt PPS in their new devices.

RAVPOWER PD PIONEER CAPACITY AND PERFORMANCE (TESTED)

ravpower pd pioneer test On to the main event: capacity testing. The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh was impressive as it consistently scored efficient ratings across all tests. In the 9-watt test, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh posted 61.97 watt hours at 85.36% efficiency. Frankly, there are power banks in the 20000mAh class that performed better in this test. The ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0, the Xiaomi Mi Power bank 20000 mAh gen 3 and the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD all posted better ratings in this test. ravpower pd pioneer power
The ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 posted 66.88 watt hours at 92.89% efficiency; the Xiaomi Mi Power bank 20000 mAh gen 3 posted 68.94 watt hours at 93.16% and the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD scored 65.54 watt hours at 90.57% efficiency. However, on the flip side, the 9-watt test may not be as important in the 20000 mAh class as power banks in this category are better measured on heavier demands. On the 18-watt test, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh scored 61.5 watt hours at 84.7% efficiency. These are almost identical numbers to the 9-watt test and this bodes well for the RAVPower creation as it shows that the power bank is a consistently efficient performer even at higher demands. ravpower pd pioneer charging capabilities
However, on this test, it was still edged out by its competitors. The  ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 posted 68.56 watt hours at 95.22% efficiency; the Xiaomi Mi Power bank 20000 mAh gen 3 posted 67.69 watt hours at 91.61% efficiency and; the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD scored 63.22 watt hours at 87.37%. On the 30-watt test, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh still showed its consistent efficiency as it scored 59 watt hours at 81% efficiency. Frankly, the ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 and the Xiaomi Mi Power Bank 20000 mAh Gen 3 still performed better as they posted 66.22 watt hours at 92% and 63.52 watt hours at 85.8%. But again, on the flip side, the RAVPower outclassed the Anker PowerCore Speed 20000 PD on this test. Furthermore, 81% is still an efficient clip at a high-demand test of 30 watts. testing ravpower pd pioneer
It is on the 60-watt test that RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh pulled away from its competitors. The 60-watt test is uncharted territory for most power banks as only a few reach this capacity. Among the competitors of the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh, it is only the ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 which is able to stand toe-to-toe on this test as the latter has a 65-watt capacity. On the 60-watt test, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh posted 59.8 watt hours at 82% efficiency -- scores consistent from the 9-watt test up to the maximum output test. This further drives the point that the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh is a consistently efficient power bank.  For comparison, the ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 scored 56.31 watt hours at 78.2% on its 65-watt test.

SHOULD YOU BUY THE RAVPOWER PD PIONEER 20000mAh?

If you are an iPhone or Android or an owner of a smartphone from the previous generation, this should be a no-brainer. Buy the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh! It is a convenient, powerful and efficient power bank not only for your smartphones but also for your tablets and laptops. With a size and weight smaller than most of its competitors in the 20000mAh class, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh promises convenience because of its small, compact and light design. Although it may not easily slip into pockets, the power bank demands little space in your bags and briefcases. The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh also boasts a high capacity of 60 watts. This is uncharted territory for other power banks in the 20000mAh class. Only the pricier ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 competes with the RAVPower creation at this capacity. In our tests, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh scored consistent efficiency ratings across all tests. From the 9 watt test to the penultimate 60-watt test, its efficiency scores barely slipped. The cherry on top is the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh has a cheaper price tag than its competitors. The RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh is priced at a reasonable $44.This is half the price of the ZMI QB820 20000mAh Quick Charge 3.0 which has a tag of $89.95. The only drawback to consider is that this power bank does not have fast-charge support for devices which require PPS such as the more recent releases of Samsung. This includes the Samsung Note 10, 10+, 20, Note 20 ultra, S20, S20+ and S20. This means that for some users, there are better alternatives. However, the majority of users out there do not require PPS support by making the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh compatible with Huawei’s FCP 9V and SCP. This puts it a step ahead of other power banks as compatibility with Huawei’s fast charge technologies is rare. The support for the Huawei FCP 9V and SCP is on top of the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh’s compatibility with other fast-charge technologies such as the Apple 2.4V, Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 and USB Power Delivery 3.0. Ultimately, unless you use a device which requires PPS such as the more recent Samsung models, the RAVPower PD Pioneer 20000mAh remains to be the best choice for most users. It is, without doubt, the best 20000mAh power bank. asdf
